This week I read about 16 interview tips in What Color is Your Parachute. I got a a few great takeaways this week! At the start of the chapter I was reminded that even though things might feel out of control when I am interviewing, as long as I still feel in control of myself and my answers, and that I a know I am trying to the best of my ability, I am doing a great job! It's all about being authentic and confident!
One of the first big takeaways I gathered was not to be discouraged. Just because an interview goes awry at one business or that they tell you that you are not qualified for that position does not mean that you aren't qualified for it somewhere else. There is a business out there that is looking for the skills and work ethic that you have, it just might take a dozen, or more, rejections before you find that place. Don't get discouraged!
Some of what I covered this week is common sense. Always be prepared. Go in with answers to questions that you know you will be asked, and prepare some thoughts or statements that can cover a lot of questions you might not be prepared for. Always answer in a positive light, you never know who your interviewer knows in the industry. Also, do your research on the company that you are interviewing at. If you know what their goals are, see how they apply to your goals and how you can work with the company so that you both achieve them!
What I liked about this section was that it talked a bit about how to answer interview questions. Of course, keep it short and sweet, but not too short and not too comfortable! Also, when answering questions, keep to the topic being discussed, but if you can add extra info into your answer, without getting too long winded, do so if it will help to answer any questions that have not yet been asked.
I strongly encourage you to check this book out for this chapter. There is so much in this chapter that is extremely beneficial to learn, or even brush up on if you are already headed in the right direction!
