The first petal in completing your self-inventory is about people. More specifically, the people you want to work with. By coming up with a detailed type of person you want to work with, you can later decide if that office setting is going to work for you. When detailing this petal, you want to think of not only the good experiences you have had with co-workers, but also the bad. Think back on every time you did not get along with someone else. Is there a reoccurring pattern, in either your behavior or theirs? If it is your behavior, work to change it. If it was someone else's behavior, make a not that you do not want to work with those kinds of people. A great way to analyze your behavior and to see where you need support is to take the Holland test, which can be found online.
The second petal is about your working conditions. Maybe you can learn to cope with certain people, but if your environment is unbearable, are you every going to accomplish tasks to the best of your ability? You need to chart out your distasteful working conditions, then rank these conditions. Also, what are the keys to your effectiveness at work? For example, at least a semi-private desk set-up with lots of natural lighting is where I work best, as it is similar to the office set-up I have in my bedroom. However at work, we have no natural lighting but I do have a private, quite, and cozy work space with plenty of desk room. Natural lighting ranks low on my conditions and is easy to trade off since I can step out any time I would like and frequently have to leave the office for meetings.
