If you have ever Googled something, congratulations! You have experienced search engine optimization. Over the next dozen or so weeks we will be discussing the organic side of search engine optimization. Organic search engine optimization means that the search engine is searching for the best results that are not being advertised.
These results have been carefully selected by Google. These results are not only the most relevant to your search, but also of the highest quality. You should want to put out high quality work anyways, but doing so will help Google find your website or page if it related to a search. How often is what is searched mentioned on your website or page? Has your work been referenced by anyone else? Has it been shared? A great way for you to create traction for your site is to share it across as many channels as possible (and that, of course, are relevant). The more people you expose to you work, the more visitors you might have. More visitors (without bounces - more to come later) and interaction on your site also make for a reliable and trustworthy page in Google's eyes. Finding shortcuts and ways to "cheat" Google's searches will only cheapen your site and content. Focus on authentic, reliable content, and your site will become trustworthy and, hopefully, arrive on the first page of a Google search!
