Though this will be short on each topic, it is important to know about industry leaders and innovators. While there will always be new people tapping into the AI market, it is important to listen to those that have brought AI to the forefront of technology and the future.
Andrew Ng
Mr. Ng helped to launch massively open online courses through Coursera. He has lectures here that are available to anyone, so that everyone can learn about machine learning. Ng has continued to work on making information about deep learning (for technology), available to everyone. Ng emphasizes machine learning in his lectures. He discusses how machine learning is a dynamic algorithm, one that always needs updating. Due to the dynamic aspect of machine learning, there is going to be a need for people who know how to code this.
Geoffrey Hinton
Mr. Hinton is responsible for recent advances in AI learning. He is a cognitive psychologist and computer scientist. It's the perfect background for someone to write algorithms for computers to learn!
Pedro Domingos
Mr. Domingos is the author of the book, Master Algorithm. In his book, he discusses how things came together for machine learning, core concepts anyone needs to know moving forward, and some opportunities that artificial intelligence presents.
Fei Fei Li
Ms. Li specializes in computer vision. She is a leader in using AI to assist in visual applications, like facial recognition software or self-driving cars. This is the most widely recognized aspect of artificial intelligence right now.
Jim Spohrer
Mr. Spohrer lead the development of service science, management, and engineering. Mr. Spohrer notes that we experience AI on a personal level, everytime we make a search, or look at recommended products after a purchase, you are looking at artificial intelligence. He also suggests being the best by learning from the rest. If you can't find a job you want, create your own in the AI industry. If you find a job you like, start using it to tackle unsolved problems in your industry. Work with a team of STEM professionals to learn new skills and use your current skills to bring new insights to the AI industry.
Irving Wladawsky-Berger
Mr. Wladawsky-Berger is an expert in emerging technology and frequently contributes to the Wall Street Journal's CIO Journal, along with a plethora of other involvements and achievements. He makes an interesting point that we have always had innovations in the past, and that some of these innovations, like indoor plumbing, tvs, and airplanes, to name a few, might be considered bigger innovations than AI. Without these innovations, we wouldn't be looking to modify them further. He talks about techno-pessimists, who think there will be no further innovations and mass unemployment, and techno-optimists, where just as we have continued to adapt with each new innovation in the past, we will again to innovations in the future. It is up to us to advocate for technological innovation and to make sure that we adjust accordingly to this changing future.
