When considering search engine optimization, there are a few things that should be avoided as well. While Google does scan for keywords, overstuffing your blog post with keywords, especially ones that don't relate to your article, can cause it to be overlooked. Google may view this as spam. It will skip over it. Plus, the readability for your visitors will probably be difficult as well. Stay away from links that you can buy to insert into your page or site as well. Don't add spam to your site. This is an easy way to let Google know you don't have a reputable site. As they say, the best things in life are free. Do not duplicate items either. Google will only show one, so don't even think about passing someone else's work off as your own, or trying to reference your work again. Just make an internal link to one of your pages or an external link to a page you admire! Finally, don't insert extra words or links that are unnecessary. By this, I mean don't put white words on a white background, black words on a black background, etc. Also, don't make things like a comma, period, or anything like this related to grammar a link. When things are made a link, they turn blue and are underlined. This is easy to fix and make look like regular text. Google again recognizes these types of tactics as spam and unreliable.
While it is mostly trial and error, you are going to want to find what works best for you. What works great for another site may only work okay for you, especially if you have a different target market. Focus on that authentic work and let people come to you based on your passions!
