Videos & Going Live

Last week I talked about how to create a Facebook page and I touched on how to manage it. The next step is figuring out what to post to your page. The obvious post is a text post. From there, you might be inclined to upload a picture as well. How do you make you posts stand out in a sea of text? Video.

Apple seems to have nailed this tactic in their commercials for their iPhone 6. Apple's commercials were "freelanced" by its users. The popular "shot-on-an-iPhone" campaign included photos and videos captured by those aforementioned iPhones. The pictures were breathtaking, but the videos which were crystal clear spoke more about the phone than a spokesperson could.
Sometimes, simplicity and a good idea is what really helps you stand out. Even if you do not have an iPhone, creating and sharing videos is a great way to engage your audience. Facebook even has a "go-live" option now. For example, Vogue goes live a lot. They advertise in advance and if a user is following them, they get an alert when Vogue is "live." A few weeks ago, Vogue went live and did a tour of their famous closets. Users were able to like, share, and make comments. In real time, those hosting the video were able to respond back to the users. The hosts are then able to ask the audience questions and keep them interested in what they are going to see next.

Though videos do not require fancy equipment or software programs, they do require a good plan, especially if it is a live video. Short videos in a sea of text posts stand out. Yet, again, marketing is a balance game of finding the right mix for the market you intend to share with. Without a game plan and purpose for the video, you may find yourself rambling and without followers.
