There Are Over Ten Million Vacancies Available Each Month

This week I really learned something new.  I had already known about the Current Population Survey, released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which details the depressing unemployment statistics at the beginning of each month.  What I did not know is that they release a report called the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.  This survey details how many people found work each month (5,051,000 - April 2017), and how many positions are still vacant (4,973,000 - April 2017).  Yes, that's the title of this blog post right there.  Combined, that is over 10 MILLION job openings!  But why aren't they all filled if there were 18,035,000 people unemployed in April of 2017?

First off, job-hunting should be like bare-bones dating.  What it all boils down to is if the employer likes you, and more importantly, if you like the employer.  If they don't like you, you aren't getting hired.  BUT!  If you don't like them after a round of interviews, wouldn't you have rather realized that in an interview than after several years into your career?  Some of those vacancies may also be due to people not taking their job-hunting seriously.  There is plenty of aid out there to help you get a job, you just have to make job-hunting a priority.  Sometimes, interviews just feel right, and things seem to go well due to pure luck.  They can also go wrong due to pure luck as well.  That's ok.  What always needs to be a priority is being able and ready to job-hunt, and understanding that it is the most important thing in your life, which will benefit you, hopefully, for the rest of your life!
