Week 4 - MKTG 348 - SEO Basics (SEO - Blog #5)

The main point of search engine optimization is to direct visitors to your website.  The better the content that you have on your website, the more people will visit it or mention it.  Google takes this into consideration when "grading" your website.  Good works gets you a good grade and a good page ranking!  The best type of content to start off with on your website, especially if you aren't sure where to start, is informational material.  This should be information about your, your company, and/or your products, services, and any other applicable offerings.  A majority of the people visiting your site are just browsing.  It is important to establish your site as an authority as well as begin a relationship with a potential customer.  Draw them in with good information and keep them coming back for more!

By adding more content and drawing visitors in, Google will rank your website higher and with this increase in value, your site will have a higher chance at being displayed before other related sites.  Remember, not all content is good content though.  If your content is sloppy, unrelated to your overall theme, or causes visitors to immediately leave, this can cause Google to negatively rank you.  Additional content such as adding links to your site and sharing your new respectable site across respectable channels also helps ranking scores.  In addition to content, make sure your page is easily accessible.  For example, make sure that it is published and that you don't need a password to enter. Finally, make sure that you take advantage of the search engine optimization tools in your website builder.  Usually this will allow you to add relevant keywords and very short descriptions to help Google rank your site.  Remember, quality over quantity!

Hubspot Insights
I am currently enrolled in Hubspot Academy's Inbound Marketing course.  I have learned a lot from their videos so far!  Fantastic concise videos that help me take everything that I have learned and apply it to my job.  Each week I will try to share something that I have learned or found interesting.
This week we focus on how blogging helps your organic search engine optimization.  The title of your blog should refer to what your blog is about.  In your blog, only focus on one topic.  If you feel like there is a related topic, write another blog and add the link to this blog to your future blog!  Also, a call-to-action (CTA) is very important.  Are you talking about an e-book your readers can get from you?  Or maybe a printable calendar?  Either way, make your readers fill out a form so you have their information to contact them in the future.  The reward for filling out this form is the download!  There is much more to a call-to-action, but you'll have to check back soon for more!
